For those suporting children with autism/communication difficulties, a key area of concern is how to manage episodes of challenging behaviour. To be effective in this area, it is vital that staff have an understanding of the reasons why this behaviour may occur.
This course looks at the core difficulties around communication for this group of pupils and how this can lead to behaviours that challenge their ability to learn and those who support them. It explores the need to analyse the reason for, and outcomes of the behaviours we see and strategies to support positive engagement.
Following the course, attendees will:
be able to describe how communication breakdown can result in episodes of challenging behaviour be able to use strategies to explore the reasons for breakdowns be able to implement strategies and interventions to plan for and prevent challenging behaviour
